Whiskey barrels are versatile, rustic wedding décor that will add lots of character to your big day. This blog will explore a variety of ways that 1899 Farmhouse outdoor wedding venue’s clients have used barrels as décor in their weddings. The barrels are typically solid oak and have been used to store whiskey. They have markings, stains and scratches that give them an aged look, which makes them work well with a rustic wedding theme. You can also use wine barrels.
Here are some ideas on how to use barrels as rustic wedding decor:
Try placing the barrels throughout your wedding venue. For example, for an outdoor wedding, place a barrel on each side of the beginning and end of the aisle. They would also look great with just two barrels at the aisle entrance. You can add a variety of popular rustic wedding flowers, such as sunflowers or baby’s breath to vases and place them on top of the barrels to add color. Large, colorful flower arrangements look great as well. Get creative and add other rustic wedding décor to complement the barrels, such as bales of hay or rustic wedding signs.
Another idea is to place a barrel on each side of the reception entrance. You can be consistent and use the same type of flowers you used at the aisle entrance or try others that work well with the barrels.
Some of our clients used them inside the reception area as well.
Another tip is to use them to make a rustic, eye-catching table to display items such as vases of flowers, wedding signs, framed photos, guest book, etc. To make the table, place a distressed piece of wood or vintage door across the top of the barrels. Another option is to use a plain piece of wood and add a burlap table runner. If you have other rustic items, they can be placed around the barrels.
Additionally, the barrels can be used to display wedding food. A rustic wedding cake, cupcakes, drinks, etc., will look nice on these tables.
If you have wedding games available, try using the barrels to create game tables for guests to play Jenga or other wedding games. Follow the same directions listed above to create the tables. At our venue, couples used the barrels to display other décor or bowls of snacks.
You can purchase whiskey barrels or wine barrels in numerous places online, including Amazon, eBay and Walmart. Search online to find other vendors or ask your wedding planner to acquire them.
